roasted herbs, black cherries, strawberry jam, toast, smoky plum. after being open for a couple hours there's something i can't quite figure out...it's sort of an underbrush and twigs nose, but with a extra something??? whatever it is i like it. i'm becoming more and more of a barbera fan, especially at the price point some of these wines are.

Served as part of a wedding dinner at Perbacco in SF. Coffee on the nose with a touch of kelp (!). Lightweight in the middle with a dry, spicy finish. Needs food. Fair.

Aged 6 months in barrique. Somewhat muted nose. Almost subtle flavors of dark fruits and dried leaves, with good acids. Not a fruit bomb, this is a surprisingly pleasant, lighter style, and the barrique treatment is not apparent.
