Faint but pleasant nose of dark cherries with a vibrant ripe cherry taste that has a surprisingly long although somewhat indistinct finish that’s a bit hot ala Sonoma pinots. Great value - I would take this any day over most comparably priced OR and CA pinots.

40th anniversary tasting (L'Esprit du Vin - Axelborg): My notes from this fantastic gigantic tasting are in general extremely short (because of the many wines) but with ratings. We spent a whole day tasting and tasting quality wines.
This wine: Morey reminds me of Domaine Leflaive. No wonder, Morey is former winemaker from Leflaive. Lots of cherry flavours

Initial scents of iron and blood, dark sour cherry and some wild thistle-like smell. The initial taste was, frankly , a huge and good surprise : grilled meat, pepper, dark berries - and the smells that had been dancing around the idea of peony finally came together on the tongue so it was almost like tasting peonies , if that makes any sense - as part of an explosive finish - one of the most challenging and expansive finishes I’ve had for some time. In its own weird and kinda rustic way - wow. I mean weird in a good sense : unexpected , different, fun, nerd heaven. Now in my own tabulation of “2019: vintage of the century or alcohol-turbo charged messes in the making?” — Well, 14% abv on this one and while it shares some characteristics with CA pinot, it had the minerality of a tin mine and the tannic structure of a verrrry old school (pre-1960) burg. I fricken love it. This baby will not blow up. I may have underestimated this producer in the past Score: 92. Relative to expectations: ++
Day 2. This has lost a lot of its charming weirdness and put on more weight, added a sort of burning peat edge to the nose, and revealed more dark fruit. The wine came together very nicely, if a bit too “respectably” given its highly unusual expression yesterday. Another way of putting it is that it really came together as classic “burgundy” in a much more easily referenced way. However it also makes me more assured that this will not dissolve into an alcoholic mess and that speaks well of the wine making here.
Score: same (92). Relative to expectations: ++
