This wine was served as a vin mystere at a Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin dinner. The wine showed pale ruby with a slight brown rim, but seemed younger than its years both to the eye and on the nose. Only one guest thought it was younger than 2000 though most correctly identified it as Cote de Beaune and several identified it as a Volnay. It presented a delightful bouquet of red fruits with a pleasant undertone of earth and leather which was replicated on the palate. A delightful wine and one to sip and savour. This probably has a few years left if it has been carefully cellared to this point but seems unlikely to improve much from here.

Lovely tertiary nose. Earth, dried roses, leather, with cherry more than forest berry fruit. Midweighted with terrific palate breadth, a sense of weightless power and a texture I can best describe as silk. More beautiful mature perfume and tertiary notes follow on the palate. Bouillon, mushroom, cherry fruit, dried rose petal. Very long. In the first couple hours, there were firm tannins on the back end, but the back end tannins soften over time. A wine drinking at its absolute apogee for me. Gorgeous, understated, beguiling, savory Burgundy. Delicious. 93

This bottle was over the hill but still very pleasant. Tea notes have replaced acid and mineral. However, the wine was still very fruitful - but not sappy. Aged but still balanced.

In a nice spot without being hugely complex. Earthy, red fruits, nice structure.
