A little out of balance compared to my last note. In this bottle the acid freshness overshadowed the fruit and the finish, more of an Italian style than what I'm used to from this vineyard. Still good, but. Might be bottle variation, might be a phase.

My favorite Cali Syrah vineyard, both this and it's Myriad counterpart are enjoyable, but this cooler side version brings more finesse and subtlety and wins my nod. I'm scoring this the same as it's twin despite that, because at this early stage I think the Myriad is more enjoyable, but in the longer run, this will be the better wine as the savory notes evolve.

Black raspberry, pomegranate, dried cranberry, plum, peonies, and some dry salami flavors emerge from Quivet's Las Madres Hulda block. With medium-bodied intensity and a smooth cadence of delivery (especially given its youth), it is sure to please those looking for a Northern Rhone defector finding literal roots in Sonoma. Give this a few years to gain some depth, but it's already accessible and willing to gift satisfaction in its current state. Decant and play around with now, or cellar for a bit.
This was served next to a 2019 Myriad 100% Whole Cluster Las Madres Syrah, which was more Salvador Dali intense and vivacious than its San Diego surfer Quivet counterpart (not surprising given the Myriad's fistful of bunches).
94+ points for the Quivet. A super solid showing that will certainly merit even more delight after 2023-2024+.
UPDATE: I may have underestimated this wine. I followed it over the course of a number of days experimenting with Coravin and open air service. There’s some real complexity and layered flavoring here, along with a surprising amount of focus and energy. The final sips on this were pretty extraordinary. The lineup in 2019 for Mike Smith Syrahs appears to be pretty phenomenal!
This Quivet is a wine to hold for a few years, but what a treat even now. With time, this will merit an even higher score once its depth is even more established. 95++ points.

Savory cool-weather Syrah, this is still young and forest floor still dominates plus some olive, excellent mouthfeel and texture.

Very smooth and mature, with a nice mild tannic finish. Who knew it would be this good this soon?
