  • Friday V-day late night at Maison Dakota. Pop and poured. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of truffles, mushrooms, earth, dark red plums, leathery meat, chocolate with more air. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet chocolate, mocha, sweet ripe dark red plums, dark red cherries, leathery meat. Very long finish.
Very good quality. Suave and structured. At peak. Drink up now. Complex modern Brunello.

  • Medium ruby garnet broadening to a garnet rim. Initial impression is of bonfire, mixed with fine earthy elements and hint of cooked black fruits. Seems pretty developed, but still quite restrained. Nice deep seated blackish fruits upon entry which broaden out a little before the acidity brings it back on to the straight and narrow. Palate seems a little backward of the bouquet, but this runs out of steam as the slightly angular tannins take over, leaving a slightly empty impression on the finish.

An interesting mix of the reserve of a not yet fully developed wine, with the slight weakness of a difficult year's structure. Very nice wine still and of course quite food friendly - this with a high quality dish of Lamb cutlets served with a series of Mediterranean accompaniments.

Should be drunk reasonably soon before the cracks widen still further.

  • A lovely, if odd nose of slightly thin mature fruit, mixed with deep layers of chocolate truffles, pine smoke, vanilla. Very keen acidity on the midpalate, the mature fruit, slightly oxidised, is very full and dark for Brunello. Tannins show quite solid and seem from oak. A nice wine, if atypical.

  • OFFLINE: Bistro Provence in Boca 12/27/04 Board-O, Rothko, Emilio, Ari and wives

Cherry nose. Medium body wine, slight bricking but still fresh tasting. Crisp with a smoky finish. Not complex but a very nice taste.(Emilio)

1993 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Madonna del Piano Reserva I also detected some cherry, and plum, and even some pine on the palate but did not feel the fruit was showing through very well. Still possessing tannins but I thought the finish was short-ish.
    (Ari)

1993 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino Madonna del Piano Reserva: A huge aroma of cherry liquor and smooth texture. It certainly was not past its prime, and it held up well against the 1997 brunello (Rothko)
