Got the 'French Funk' going on. Very nice. Stony cold blue fruits and tannins still in abundance. This is a wine that is going to need at least 5 more years.

2 weeks in France; 4/14/2012-4/28/2012 (Provence and Dordogne): BTG pour at l'Envers du Decor in St. Emilion. Somewhat closed aromatically, vigorous swirling revealed just a hint of dark fruit, earth, and herbs. Medium bodied but with good palate saturation, and more generous with flavor than the nose would imply. Blackberry, plum, tobacco, herbal/sage notes, with rustic tannins clamping down on the finish. Good wine, nothing special. Probably could use some more time.

CT Bordeaux Trip, Day 3 (Right Bank & Chateau Coutet for Dinner): Bought by the glass at l'Envers du Decors in St Emilion to wash a lovely entrecote with shallots down with. A decent wine, but not all that great, especially given the vintage and its terroir, being just a stone's throw from all the great names of the appelation. The nose was promising at first - lots of smoky mineral, some roasted meat, dusty earth, blackberries and plums. I kinda liked it. The palate on the other hand was rather lean and mean for a 2005 initially, but it thankfully opened up to make a pleasant wine - nice dark fruited plums and berries lined with some stone and earth and some smoky, spicy notes at the end. The wine had a decent sense of structure and balance, and quite a bit of substance to it, but I thought it lacked some of the clarity and focus of classier St Emilions. Overall, a nice enough glass to have with my steak, but not one I would hunt out and buy.

Amazingly deep nose. Concentrated, great depth, tannic, medium+ acid, dark.
