Showing its age, with forest floor on the nose. It’s very complex in the mouth, aided by what seems like a touch of Bret. Crunchy fruiti, some cinnamon, pebbles. Starting to oxidize, but in a tasting of 24 Pennies mature reds, this was the one that held people attention the longest. Outclassed by the 90 though.

This bottle was re-corked in 1991 and had a very youthful colour. The nose showed some mushroomy cellar stink as well as leather, blueberry, tar and vanilla. In the mouth it had a core of sweet briary fruit and a touch of raisin. There was some animale muskiness and plenty of earth. It is a lovely aged Aussie wine somewhere close to its apogee.
