  • Holy Moly Amarone (DP's, Goose Hollow, Portland OR): There is a touch of balsamico that strikes right off the bat, but it is more part of the whole than taking on a starring role. There is so much depth to it with balanced tones of leather, black cherries, spice cake, dried violets, raspberries, dried herbs, and a touch of carob powder. The Full bodied feel is silky and polished with crisp, medium acidity and refined, medium tannins that have mostly resolved. This showed as mature in the blind setting, but I really have no clue how to place these wines with age to a point. It does feel like it's in its pomp and may possibly be cresting the hill if not just on the other side.

  • It's been a while since we had a good Amarone and this was put into service to accompany some Ravioli with basil. Gave it about a 1/2 hr decant. Spectacular! Dark fruit essence of mineraly blueberries & black cherry with some complex dark spices reminiscent of good port aromatics. No Boytritis or Va but the texture is what really makes this so good. I kept thinking about how "Velvety" the tactile feel was. Great balance, completely dry on the finish, which was long and satisfying. Mature yet still full of beautiful fruit. go to bottle.

  • fantastic amarone. deep ruby color. nose of bitter almonds. on the palate classic amarone with lingering aftertaste. Had with with my good friend Fabrezio and our wives at Il Posto. Still has many years of life in it. So good the wine steward wanted me to get him some of this wine so he can put it on his wine list.
