  • Holy Moly Amarone (DP's, Goose Hollow, Portland OR): The nose is pungent, rich, and deep with tones of black cherries, raspberries, cranberries, fruitcake, fig, chocolate, spice notes, and roses. There is excellent layering right now with this showing off a very expressive side. The Full bodied feel carries through that depth and expressiveness with medium acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. This really had it all going for it. Everything about this was in its right place and firing on all cylinders.

  • This estate has been family run for about 100 years. The estate is a close neighbor of Quintarelli. This estate is known for making a more elegant style Amarone compared to the extracted style. This wine is aged in the traditional botti. The wine is a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Altri a bacca rossa all planted in 1985. This wine normally sells for about $70 but I got it on sale for $30. 2004 was an excellent year in the Veneto. Opened but not decanted 6 hours before drinking. Deep purple color. Not overly raisiny. Notes of plum, wet earth and currants. Full bodied. 91 points.

  • By far the best one of these I've had, and perhaps this one shows the wine is hitting its stride. Very nice rich aromas of figs and strawberries, but there's still a brightness to it. The palate is smooth, showing bright red fruits and just slight red fruits, with intense acid filling the palate. The tannins are present for sure, but not too intrusive. Nice acid lingering on the rich, seductive finish. This definitely has an Amarone presence, but I love the lighter side of the spectrum it offers. At 15% alcohol, this is actually quite low for an Amarone these days. I'd call the window definitely open on these and will probably consume another fairly soon.

  • Cherries, chocolate, some sweet spyces, the oak is being integrating well, just a little alcool but it was a nice performance, quite fresh, round, fine texture of tannins.

  • Dried fruit, volatile acidity, sweet spice and leather. Round, evolved but still fresh on palate with firm but slightly astrigent tannins.
