  • Ripe cherry, plum, blackberry, a hint of prunes. Aniseed on the nose but not the palate. Has a dusty character, and seems a bit prematurely aged like it's about 10 years old rather than 6 (explains the prunes?)...in theory a bad thing but does mean that it's currently probably at/near peak rather than youngish.
Surprisingly light and elegant bodied, does not feel like 14.5% and McLaren Vale. I think 2017 was cool and maybe damp, so possibly a thin vintage for fruit concentration, may have been a benefit here as the elegance is a real positive for me.
Good now but don't hold more than a few years I think.

If you paid RRP this is a ~$90 wine and I'd have to say it underperforms what I expect for that price. Fox has been discounting in recent years though, and as a $30 "mystery" wine it's a very good buy.

At the winery on this day. We have on opening deep ruby red in colour with ruby red at may 2021.
On opening we have beautiful ripe fruit leaping out of the glass of plumbs blueberries and prune fruit with lovey new oak adding complexity .. excellent
On the palate we have similar to above flavours with rich mid palate sweetness and lovely oily sweet tannins giving great length. Super wine again showing how great this area is and how good this winery is .. Well done guys congratulations
