Colour of this 22 years old Shiraz is looking quite ruby, showing not much sign of aging. However the bouquet clearly indicates that there is serious amount of aging. There are notes of preserved plums and blackberries, earthy spices, old leather and wet undergrowth. Everything is subtle and fine. Very secondary and tertiary nose. Palate is elegant, smooth but with lifted VA in the mid-palate and finish. Not much fruit elements left. Finish is deep and lingering. Need some air to bring the aroma out. To me, it has past its prime but credits should be given for the amazing lifespan of this Aussie Shiraz. Probably at its prime 5 years ago. Drink up now.

What is up with this wine? Deep color would have you think it was at least 15 years younger. Deep rich black fruits in the nose and flavor. Nice balance and complexity, no rough edges, and pleasant touches of spice on the finish. This was not what we were expecting given my notes said to drink three years ago, but was a pleasant surprise.

Dark garnet with no clear sign of amber. Blackberry bouquet with hints of earth, dried flowers, black cherry, blueberry, cassis, licorice, mint, pepper, spice & sweet oak. Full, deep, intense, quite concentrated, warm, plush, black fruit flavors fully integrated with ripe tannins & silky extracts; fresh acidity in fine balance enhancing clarity & precision. Long lush, slightly tangy finish.

A Syrah Friday at Domaine (Domaine Wine Storage, Chicago IL): Nose: Unmistakably Aussie on the nose with eucalyptus, dark red cherries, licorice, black fruits, spice, and a touch of purple florals. There is a lot of balance to this with the fruit still well being there.
Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium acidity and silky tannins. The structure is still there with dark red cherries, eucalyptus, black fruits, licorice, violets, and some incense on the back end.
Overall: This was drinking beautifully. It is extremely balanced with a real nice dark red fruit core.

I didn’t really enjoy this bottle - seemed jammy, cloying. Not too old but heavy without a lot of interesting complexity.
