Deep ruby with no sign of bricking. Funky celery root nose, almost seems a touch maderized on the nose with an interesting herbal saline character not unlike what I've found in some Baja (MX) wines, but this is perfectly fresh. Reminds me of a Bloody Mary?? Gentle acidity and still nice blue fruit with equally present herbal flavors, very good today and likely about to begin falling off its plateau of maturity. Falls off substantially after 90 minutes open, drink up.

Color: purple and brick at the rim Nose: dry ,raisinated, ripe plum. There are a hints of leather and plenty of licorice and anise as well. Some red fruit still lingers on Palate: acidity is still medium-high. Wow, this is 20 years old now. Coffee and chocolate notes along with the plum and red fruit. Anise. Finish: long
It's still with us. Acidity must have been something at the onset. Today, tertiary notes are matched by fruit. Really in balance, great with chicken with lots of personality. One of those bottles you get once in a while. Wow

The 2001 Scarrone Vigna Vecchia, showed a mature bouquet full of crushed black cherry and plum sauce offset by moist black soil tones, with brown spices and crushed mint. On the palate, I found silky textures contrasting simulating, brisk acidity, as notes of raspberry and cinnamon gave way to savory rosemary, with hints of braised meat and cedar. The finish was long, totally resolved and mature, resonating on inner florals, earth tones and hints of dried black cherry. This is simply in a perfect place right now.

The oak is finally fading, but this is still a massive, extracted wine. Heavy and overbearing, just not really my thing, though can see how others may appreciate it.

five years later, and still just too overbearing for me. A big whiff of vanilla blows off after some time in the decanter. Despite balancing out, I still find it tiring to drink. I guess I'll bury the rest for another five years and see what happens.
