  • Soft, leaky cork. Pale, muddy red appearance. Nose opens with perfumed red notes of rose petals and saffron; these quickly fade, revealing faint notes of dried herbs and kindling. The nose seems hotly alcoholic, though the label says the alcohol level is only 12.5%. Palate shows a light, silky body under strong, sharp acidity. The acidity is not harsh or bitter, but it dominates the palate: the tannins have disappeared, along with most of the flavour. Flavours of pomelo and grapefruit juice, with faint hints of orange and cranberry. Terrific for a 20-year-old Pinot, and very interesting to drink, but has faded significantly since its peak.

  • 12.5% EtOH. Medium garnet with fading browning rim. Mature yet quite vibrant nose. Spice, cherry, game. Palate is lively, with fresh acid, softened tannin and red sweet and sour fruit. This has aged very well into a complex balanced mature wine. Very happy with this. (92 Very good wine)
