In general, Oregon pinots are great in the good years. Quality California Pinots are more consistent and the good are really good. This was very weak. Scant aroma, modest flavor but too much acidity. Not sure if worth exploring wines from this area.

So here's the thing - this is a nice wine in its way, but its BIG, DARK and HEAVY. Maybe its the clone, maybe its just the growing conditions, maybe its a stylistic thing, who knows what's the maybe, but it just is. I feel like I'm dancing with someone wearing hiking boots! Clumsy.
I mentally compare this to a similar "general appellation" O-noir from the Willamette Valley and I find it lacking in lift, subtlety, and nuance. Its like supercharged fruit power blasting away at you. Maybe our friends in California expect to get a lot of "bang for the buck" kind of thing. More is good and even more is even "gooder". Lol.
And why am I picking on Brewer-Clifton - aren't they one of the "good guys" who show restraint and craftsmanship? The www press (world wide wine) considers these guys a notch above. But after just spending an extended time in Oregon, I was really disappointed in this syrup. Its big but palate fatiguing, huge nose but single dimension of RIPE fruit (clonal selection?), more huge dark fruit on the palate (this would never pair well with a cedar planked roasted Salmon) and if there are any acids you certainly can't find them in your mouth.
As they say in Oregon, this is Pinot for Cab lovers. 89-

A nice example of Brewer Clifton prowess. Ripe cherry and pepper on the nose with, dare I say, a eucalyptus undercurrent? The attack and evolution progressed nicely with additional hints of cherry, strawberry and black pepper. Long finish as it’s still a little tight. Time will benefit this one.
