Again dark profiled nebbiolo. Tar, dark fruits, roses, savory/herbal notes, iron, and olive. Better texture and with more focus and clarity that the Ginestra. A good sense of sap, minerality and focus. Drinking at peak.

1989 Piedmont Retrospective (Cinghiale, Baltimore): Expressive nose displaying concentrated warm red and black fruit, cherry, dry cherry, fruitcake, iron, sweet spices, tar and earthy mineral. Very good concentration, generous sweet red fruit, warm, soft and round, good acidity and mineral, and a long sweet red fruit driven finish with sweet spices and iron at the end. Showing better concentration and balance than the Ginestra.

A cooler profile again, deep and clear, roses, beautiful perfume, and wonderful palalte balance and grace coupled with power. Beautiful stuff at early peak. 95

Very expressive nose of dark fruit, loads of tar and fresh asphalt along with spice and grilled meats. This is dark and dirty on the palate but with lift on the finish. Some sneaky floral and minty notes as well.

The ’89 Bricotto was one of the most accessible Barolo of this lineup, showing a seductive bouquet of dried red fruits, exotic spices, dark wood and undergrowth. On the palate, it showed silky-smooth textures with vibrant acidity adding verve, while displaying dark fruits, wet leaves and soil with salty minerals. The finish was soft with its lingering dark fruits, hints of spice and cedar. This is showing its age but drinking well.
