  • I went to the wine store to buy a few replacement bottles of 2000 La Rioja Alta Rioja Viña Alberdi Reserva but they were out. They said that if I liked oak, to try this in it's place. I enjoy wines that have aged in oak and this wine has been aged in American oak for 2 years then French oak for an additional year. And does it show. Almost to the point of excess. But it is very smooth, dry, and smokey, low in tannins and acidity. In fact "chmd" used the perfect word to describe it - rustic. An excellent example of a mid priced rioja.

  • Similar to the otherwise excellent crianza, but bigger and more concentrated. Oaky and jammy, but with good acidity and tannins that give it a rustic edge. Delicious, lingering finish. This is a terrific wine.
