  • Upon opening the bottle, the cork fragmented and the wine was accordingly transferred to decanter through an unbleached coffee filter. Very youthful-appearing deep ruby/garnet robe with red/orange rim. Clean nose, showing dried red cherry, cigar and cedar after 30 minutes of aeration. At 45 minutes, dark chocolate enters the picture. At 90 minutes, coffee and licorice add to the complexity. Full-bodied on the palate, with soft residual tannins and similar complex flavors as for the nose. The finish goes on forever. This was truly Donn Chappellet's masterpiece!
