  • Needs a bit of air to wake up right now but when it did, a great value for money Viognier or Condrieu. Highly enjoyable and a great way to learn about this wonderful but often misunderstood varietal.

A bit oxidised upon opening, it takes a bit of time for this to blow off. Once it did, the bouquet is full of apricot, buttery lees and a hint floral notes. The body has a fluency that is not often associated with entry level Condrieu. Quite plush and juicy with good depth, the body is a good example how good Condrieu could be. It hints to better things. Lovely apricot and savoury finish, delightful. Not complete top drawer but excellent all the same.

    Drink now to 3+ years.

  • The colour is clear medium lemon. The wine has medium (+) intensity. The aromas are blossom, apricot, peach, nectarine, pear, nutmeg, honey. The wine is developing. The wine is dry. The wine has a full body, the wine has medium acidity, the wine is high in alcohol, the flavour intensity is medium (+) and the finish is medium. The flavours are blossom, apricot, peach, nectarine, pear, honey, nutmeg. The wine is outstanding. Drink now, but has potential for aging.

  • Rich and round, heady with aromas of apricot. The texture is luscious, but at no point does it feel overbearing, and the finish is pleasantly nutty, particularly with a sweet-almond unctuousness. I'm typically a bit suspect of Viognier in general, given how much has a canned-peach quality I find distasteful, but this was very enjoyable.

  • Chapoutier (Ivy Bottle Shop, Sydney): Apricot, creamy lees, slight butter, a little raw ginger and a touch of bergamot, pretty nose. Juicy, fleshy, medium minus intensity tannins show a little chalky textured burr on the mid palate, more savoury and mineral than the nose implies, again a little bergamot, very slight apricot and a smidge of non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish.

  • Everything I look for in a young Viognier, with a lush, glycerined texture and a nice balance of apricot and white pepper, holding its own with the evident oak.
