1996 Burgundy Tasting (Holiday Inn - Skokie IL): Tasted blind, but expecting 1996 Burg. Simple but nicely fresh and bright, showing ripe fruit with tropical hints. Moderate length, not much nuance, but very fresh for its age and the 1996 vintage in particular.

My first impression when opening about an hour before dinner was that this bottle was OK mainly because of the absence of tell-tale sherry odours. At table, however, it was odd but maybe not (p)oxed. Colour already seemed darker. The subdued nose was minty and reminded me of tooth paste. The palate was stronger in acidity than the Chassagne from Fontaine-Gagnard and had an excessively bitter after-taste. I've put it back in the fridge as suggested to see what happens.
Two days later the bitter finish was getting sherry-like. Not premox, IMO, but aged ungracefully.
