  • Golden color. Fresh on the nose with lemon zest and curd, just a little butterscotch, and some wood that is well integrated. Very fresh and clean on the palate with great acidity, more lemon, almost a mandarin orange type citrus, and well done wood, with a great freshness, lovely minerality, good focus and surprisingly long on the finish. If I were to do the crime of calling all things US French, this reminds me of something in between a Bouchard Corton Charlemagne with a few years on it. Excellent and for my palate at late peak. Wish they made wine like this at Hartford still. 91pts.

  • Surprisingly fresh with butterscotch on the nose, with lemon oil, pears and minerals on the palate. While this wine is not youthful, it still exhibits great vibrancy of fruit with lifting acid on the finish. Blind called a rich, oaky Chard from 2005.

  • A bit past it's peak. Not showing the Chablis-like precision that it used to. Softer and more buttery. Still okay, but was better at age 5 than 7.

  • I'm not a fan of California chardonnay (I've bought 5 bottles in the last 8 years), but this one is fantastic. Very Chablis-like, full of stone fruit and minerals, and supported by a streak of steely acidity. Great balance and mouthfeel, with a long, building finish. Seemed to gain complexity as it sat in the glass. Tasted blind, I never would have guessed California. Perhaps they're out there and I'm just not aware of it, but I wish there were more New-World chardonnays this good. (Although I have to say, at the same price range as premier cru Burgundy, this wine isn't a bargain.)
