  • Mazzei's 2020 Siepi is an opaque ruby, 50/50 blend of Merlot and Sangiovese. Tasted over a three-hour interval from a bottle that had been Vinturi-decanted, it requires at least two hours in order to fully showcase its bouquet of black and blue bramble fruits that are flanked with lavender, clove, sage and loamy earth. Full-bodied and with lively acids, it delivers comparable flavors that are supported with plentiful oak and equally plentiful fine-grained tannins. Dense in the middle, it moves on to a lengthy but grippy finish. Give this some time and you will be greatly rewarded. Drink 2027-2040.

  • Deep dark reddish garnet in color, bordering on opaque. Initially reticent nose eventually developing into full, fragrant & attractive nose of dark fruit aromas of cherries, black currants, mulberries with overtones of dusty/earthy & cedar/tobacco notes, spices, herbs, leather, dark cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, rich, ripe dark fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries and boysenberries, spices, herbs, minerals, cocoa & oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well with decanting & extended airing (90 min+) but needs much more time to develop fully & completely at which time it may merit a higher score (95+).

  • Dry orange peel, bright red fruit, sharp acidity, nutty notes. Complex and charming!

  • (Assemblage aus 50% Merlot und 50% Sangiovese. Der Merlot wurde am 7. September, der Sangiovese am 21. September gelesen und während 14 bis 18 Tagen vergoren. 18 Monate Barriqueausbau, 70% neues Holz, 4 Monate Reifung in Betontanks.
