  • Surprisingly approachable given how young this is. Fruit and acid were well balanced. Oak was prominent but not overwhelming. Elegant

  • An incredible young Howell Mountain Cabernet, had to decant for 12 hours! Around hour 7 the room started to smell of wonderful Cabernet aromas it was really quite an experience even before pouring the first glass.

Dark berry, cassis, unsmoked tobacco, bitter chocolate, bay leaves, earthy moss and cayenne pepper. The palate is powerful and earthy with dark black currents, smoky cedar, crushed rocks and moss, the tannins are muscular yet refined and with a slight dusty mid-palate, the finish is savoury yet succulent. Always fresh throughout. An incredible young Howell Mountain, the tannins are incredibly special being both muscular yet refined at the same time. This needs time and I cannot emphasize enough about decanting for 12+ hours. 96++

  • The '19 Howell Mountain is an incredible young wine. I've always liked tasting older Dunn, but tasting some more of the recent vintages in the past year or so I think I've underestimated how good they are. These are world class, super finessed wines.

On the nose, I found dark red berry fruit, fresh lavender, dark floral tones, a touch of baker's chocolate and sweet spices, and smoke. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied and very delicate in texture, with almost no perception of tannin. The flavors are very pure and bright, with dark red raspberry fruit tones, red and violet floral tones, iron, and a hint of chocolate and smoke, with a really beautiful sweetness to the fruit and floral notes. It drinks more like a fine burgundy than a typical Napa cabernet, in terms of both the flavor profile with the beautifully sweet red/purple fruit & floral notes, and the concentrated flavor profile but incredibly smooth, weightless texture.
