  • It starts out fresh with dark cherry both on the nose and palate. Then I get herbs on the nose. Tannins show up in force, and then soften. So many layers, this multi dimensional wine is fabulous. Nothing compares to a well made, well aged wine.

  • It was wonderful after 30m of opening the bottle. Silky.

  • Second time I had this unbelievable elixir, tonight from a magnum. Probably one of the best wines of my life.
The magnum has quite some impact, it seems 10 years younger than from the normal bottle.
The bouquet screams Howell Mountain with almost oyster like salinity, iodine, some cassis, lots of chalk but no tertiary aromas whatsoever.
On the palate it’s even more youthful and absolutely monolithic. The tannins are still gripping like on day 1 but the extract and inner sweetness keep it in balance.
A wine, which will probably always be misunderstood by 90% of the wine drinking community but for the rest it’s pure and almost immortal enjoyment.
Drink now and for 2-3 more decades.

  • This wine was absolutely stunning. Decant and drank with food over 3 hours. Really came alive after an hour in the decanter. Deep, dark red, with bricking on the edges. Pencil shavings, earth, tobacco and walnuts on the nose. A sweet floral note between it all. In the mouth this wine is so concentrated and dense. Fruit flavor was so pure and cascading, toasty blueberry liqueur, chocolate, and spice box. Slight tannic grip, but a more noticeable minerally acidity. Unbelievable, really, for its concentration of flavor and impeccable balance.
