  • 13,5% alcohol. Tasted half-blind.

Moderately dark and slightly hazy, translucent cherry red with a hint of developed maroon hue. The nose feels rich, spicy and somewhat toasty with brooding aromas of black raspberries, some toasty wood spice, a little bit of peppery Pinosity, light gravelly mineral tones, a sweet hint of cooked beet, a touch of plummy dark fruit and a lifted hint of minty character. The wine feels rich, complex and very slightly wild on the palate with ripe yet dry flavors of dark cherries and black raspberries, some dark plummy tones, a little bit of beet root, light toasty notes of sweet, brooding oak spice, a floral hint of violets and a lifted touch of wild funk. The structure relies evenly on both high acidity and firm, somewhat grippy medium tannins. The finish is long, dry and moderately grippy with complex flavors of black raspberries, sour cherry bitterness, some meaty umami, a little bit of peppery spice, light notes of beet root, a floral hint of violets and a touch of sweet, toasty oak.

A complex, expressive and beautifully aromatic Nuits-Saint-Georges that is starting to reach its drinking window - although the level of oak surprised me. After three 1er Cru and Grand Cru Burgundies, the level of oak here was surprisingly noticeable in comparison. It is far from overdone, it but its presence is still quite obvious and it will probably take good many more years before it has thoroughly integrated with the fruit. However, structure-wise the wine really doesn't need more aging and can be drunk now if necessary. Drink now or keep - the latter, if you don't want much wood influence in your Burgundies. All in all, a fine and enjoyable effort.

  • This is drinking fantastically right now - you could hold onto it but why wait. Some funk and damp forest floor, mushroom on the nose. Sharp, sour cherry finish.
