Nyårsafton hos P+A med F+AK och barn (Södermalm, Stockholm (P+A)): (Decanted for half an hour) Deep red colour with with a brick red hue and a maturing nose showing leather, liquorice and violets in a very nice and pleasant way. Still showing austere tannins on the intense palate with dried fruit and a pleasant herbal touch on the lengthy and intense finish. This was still showing a youthful touch with a few more years to give. (Best 2009-2029)

Surprisingly deep red. Some fruit and well balanced and medium weight and length but the fruit was a little earthy and uninspiring. I like Avignonesi wines but this seemed to lack the charm of other examples.

One of the finest Vino Nobile di Montepulciano I’ve ever tasted—amazing aroma, bursting out of the bottle after 22 years. Aired for 3+ hours. Like a Brunello for its body & massive intensity of dark fruit, but its cherry bounciness corrected the occasional astringency of ordinary VNdMs. Smooth tannins, evolving over time. Lovely with boneless pork chops (maple-balsamic glaze) on Christmas. At its peak: not likely to improve further. Drink up! 96.
