  • Great aromas of burned woods, plum, vanilla and currant. Full body, balanced with brown sugar, dark fruits and black peppers on the palate. Round and juicy on the finish. Neat and warm, one of the best GSM (this bottle has some Viognier added) I have ever tasted, benefit form cellaring and this truly shines now.

  • Dark in color and showing some bricking around the edges. Methanol and blackberry nose. Black fruit on palate with some oak nuisances. Improved significantly with time.

  • Suggest a short decant (some sediment is beginning to form, rather fine-grained at this point).
15 min decant. Initially, Grenache dominates, dark fruits, blackberry.
at 30 min some hints of figs, plums, prunes and at 45 min it is easier to recall that this is a Shiraz blend ( 66% Shiraz, 19% Grenache, 8% Mourvedre, 7% Viognier).
Spicy, food friendly and ready to drink now.
It's decent, concentrated, but slightly lacking in depth and clarity compared with the 2005.
I have to admit it's a very good example of of a new world Shiraz-Grenache blend made in a ready-to-drink style. In this category it is certainly highly recommended.
I am not impressed with its performance on the second day, though it hasn't faded completely (stored without air in a small bottle).

I think that the 2005 was a bit more balanced.
Consumed with venison sausages, broccoli, and potatoes+Jerusalem artichokes (Ottolenghi recipe)

  • Rather disappointing. I'd have expected more punch here. I found it too polite, self-effacing. It tasted a lot older than a 6 year old wine; more like it was 15 years old and mostly past it. Sure, it was smooth and drinkable but nothing to make me sit up and take notice.
