Robert Mondavi Winery Masterclass Tasting (Hattenheim, Germany): A dense purple colour. The bouquet is denser and more intense compared to the estate's basic Cabernet. Vanilla, black cherry, raspberry, some mint. A charming blend of primary and secondary aromas. A pronounced but ripe tannin in the mouth. Astringent. Lots of extraction. Dark fruit, dark chocolate. Initially left on the skins for 32 days. Then matured in 90% new French oak barrels for 20 months. Compared to the first wine in this flight, better, deeper, more hedonistic, but here it's clearly about power rather than elegance. Should improve with age. [First published on DMueller.com.]

Gravel, pencil lead & graphite aromas lead to loamy earth, sage and dark chocolate notes alongside gobs of black fruit. Silky tannins make this very approachable now even without a decant.

PNP from the cellar. Did not bring to temp or decant - got some good news, so spontaneously popped and poured.
Dark and deep purple, inky almost black with a soft medium ruby rim. One the nose, fresh fruit, cherry, cola, expect more to come in an hour. Taste confirms the cherry from the nose and youthfulness, a bit of oak. Wonderful coating, good balance of flavor and acidity, powdery tannins (expect to integrate with more air), mouthwatering, long-finish. A bit hot on the nose and palette.
Really impressed by the finish, 30-45 seconds of length.
Very much looking forward to another glass in 60 mins after some air, expect the nose to open.

100% To Kalon fruit, aged in 96% french oak.
