This was way over the hill, but far from dead. Color was dark brick red with some expected browning at the edge. The nose was reticent initially but soon showed some promising notes of leather and cedar. The first taste was not great but there was something that said let it sit for a few minutes and then try again. After about 15 minutes some fruit began to show and soon flavors of plum and dark berries were surprisingly evident. There was nothing that indicated this was a Zin, but the flavors are what I would associate with nicely aged claret. Soon after, the fruit faded and the wine turned bitter, but not until we'd enjoyed a glass or two.
I see there are 3 other bottles in cellars. What are you waiting for? Open the bottle and I hope you are as pleasantly surprised as we were!
