Earthy and a lot of barnyard notes when just opened. Benefited from decanting. Complex nose, dark and red cherry with a mix of licorice and leather notes. Big tannins, softening up with time. Great citrusy acidity, beautiful balanced. Rustic. A great Poulsard.

A Montréal waited tried to tell me that the poulsard grape is like pinot noir. While it is true that poulsard can develop good acid and a light body, I think that analogy is more like saying sauvignon blanc and pinot gris are alike because they are both white. There is a fascinating array of aromas here, wild and inscrutable. Great food-friendly acid. There is some VA impression, but it's nowhere near objectionable. Excellent.

Very good wine. Great nose, very Burgundy like, earthy with some funk with some violets and cherry. There's also some herbs and olives. Pretty similar on the palate, med body with rustic tannins. Long finish. Nicely balanced and very easy to finish the full bottle!

Very interesting wine. Like the previous reviewer, not something I've tasted before. It's halfway between Gamay and Pinot Noir, and has a delicious, rich cherry core with earthy, funky aromas (barnyard will certainly do!) that make this unmistakably European in origin. Would definitely buy again. For traditionalists.
