  • Croatian orange wine from Istria: Malvasia Istriana. 15 % alcohol. Macerated for almost three months at a temperature of 22 - 25 degrees Celsius. Pigeage was performed three times per day. Aged for two years in big wooden barrels (1000 to 2500 l).

Decanted one hour before consumption and stored in the decanter during the evening.

    Beautiful amber color.

Crisp and delicate aromas of dried apricots, stone dust, lemon, honey, green apples, hazelnuts and minerals. Powerful and round flavors of nutmeg, dried apricots, butter scotch, red apples, licorice, honey, exotic spices, grape fruit and minerals.

Dry. Full body. Medium acidity. Smooth tannins. Good balance. Good structure. Complex. Powerful. Good concentration.

Long finish with orange peel, honey and nutmeg.

A good and very enjoyable orange wine. Stylistically it’s a bit cognac-like but rather moderate compared to some other orange wines. No problem with over-extraction here. The main strengths is the concentration and complexity. Balance and structure could be better. Neither the best or worst vintage I tried of this wine. Improves with air and performs best towards room temperature. I would not be surprised if the wine improves with a few more years in the cellar. 92/100
