  • Uncorked 1 hour prior to serving into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Root” day): Bright pale ruby to the eyes.

Very well blend of red and blue berry fruits like raspberries ans blueberries. Clearly layered, Ever now and then the Musigny side of this wine comes out to play and the nose is more smoky and herbaceous, very serious. As you work into the first 1/4 of the bottle, more meaty and bacon fat appeared, more elegant white spices, and charred herbs as well. As you go deeper, more pot pourri notes.

Very highly mineral on palate as expected, palate is more weighty and arguably more macho than the 2008 tasted. Very nicely dried leafy and herbaceous especially enhanced with the aged beef tartare served alongside. Arguably more tannic as well and a good grip of the fine tannins in this. One should note that this wine is tasting really great with food.

Overall, the wine is slightly less precise than itself for 2008 but still clearly the noblest of Burgundies, and likely the best of 2006 indeed. The nose is really just incredible and hard to describe, let alone finding replacement. May be there is a vague image of 2013 Domaine Bizot Echezeaux or even the Bourgogne Chapitre but they are not nearly as fine and finessed.

    95 points.

2.5 hours upon uncorked: Really starts to drink well 1/2 into the bottle with better integration. Tannins and flavours and acidity all coming together. Pure harmony. 95-96 points

3 hours upon uncorked: 3/4 into the bottle with more clay like feel and richness on palate and nose. More dark fruits and spices. Even broader spectrum of fruits. More savoury notes towards the end of the bottle. Wow. Really serious but super well integrated. One can finish the full bottle by him/herself. Must be 95-96 points, is there a better wine to drink alone? I doubt. Really profound.

4 hours upon uncorked: This bottle really “sinked in” with me. To me this can be as perfect as a wine can be to me. Really perfect timing. More malty slightly sweet and “clumsy” goodness here. Surpassed technical mastery and really emotionally fit for my taste. Upgrade to 96 points though technically not as good as the 2008.

  • Dinner at Troisgros (Roanne, France): Served alongside the 2007 vintage. More of a powerful wine than I normally expect from Amoureuses, this is presently just teasing us with its potential. While slightly riper than normal, the floral and spice notes brighten up the red and black cherry flavors.

  • I found this way too cheaply on the wine list and had to drink it. Quite youthful but surprisingly approachable with great fruit, herbs, smoke. Sweet nose.
