  • PNP into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Pale bright purplish ruby and incredible brilliant colors.

On the nose this is already living up to the ultra high expectations with changing aromas of red cherries, plums, then almost “grapefruit peel” like superbly detailed organic, juicy red berries. This quickly gives way to an incredibly vibrant bouquet of ethereal notes of complex sweet cinnamon spices, dried florals combined perfectly with the exuberant fruit notes.

Is there such a thing as “too perfect” on the palate? Darker red toned cherry fruits in their best way possible. There are some perfectly textured, silky tannins.

The finish is mellow in a nice way and almost endless here. Just “wow” and 96 points easy. Can still age for a very long time!

45 minutes, 2nd pour, 5/6 left: Incredibly fresh and intense still at this stage. Savory and lots of fresh spices to the finish. Very much a iron fist in terms of strong streak of saline minerality in velvet glove?

1 hour, 3rd pour, 4/5 left: Chocolate-like notes. Incredibly powerful yet retains its soft touch.

1 hour 15 minutes, 4th pour, 3/4 left: O.M.G. the nose of this pour is simply incredible! Exuberant exotic citrus and deep red fruits here. Upgrade to 96-97 points.

1 hour 45 minutes, 5th pour, 1/2 left: Probably hitting the perfect moment now with tons of great red fruits to balance out the superb bouquet of dried florals and spices. Still has many many years to go in cellar! 97 points solid.

2 hours 15 minutes, 6th pour, 1/3 left: Even more ethereal spices on the nose here. Just “wow”.

2 hours 30 minutes, 7th pour, 1/5 left: This is actually getting more and more tannic as we work on the bottle and this suggested longer cellarage required.

2 hours 45 minutes, last pour: Finally going back to integration and this is just getting more enjoyable at this final stage. Retain at 97 points. Think anyone else should take at least 3 hours or more to slowly unfold this!

3 hours, last “drip”: Giving more generosity finally, just lovely dark fruits, all integrated with what crazy amount of complexity this great terroir had to offer. Lots of respect here (and the incredible service here as always!)

  • Both Roumiers are less approachable, wound more tightly, and more overwhelmingly primary and youthful than the two 2010 DRCs (RSV and Richebourg) in the next glasses. Compared to the Bonnes Mares this Amoureuses is elegant, lighter, and more showy, but is also primary and difficult to get a good read on at this youthful stage. Maybe starting to get a feel for the silky edges on the palate, but far too young to see the all of the potential beauty right now, at least for me.

  • Smooth and cool nose that has only begun to develop. Extremely high quality fruit here. Density but the wine handles it well. 96-97+

  • Nose is just amazing... Ethereal, like the Bonnes-Mares, but more spice and flower versus power. The palate is smooth, balanced, lovely... Depth with concentrated intensity. Not at all heavy. This is one of Christophe's favorite's vintages in the last 20 years. Acid lift keeps this fresh.
