Lighter than expected with Chinese plum notes dominating but not with the roast I normally find with Janasse. Elegant but also bit thin in the mouth and lacking mid-palate, complexity or length. With extended air the alcohol starts to protrude although there is a nice long minty finish. I’m not a big Janasse fan and think this needs drinking up and serve cellar cool, else after time in fridge. Pop and pour and drink to 2025. Low acid and low body for a 2001 CdP and was overpowered by wagyu steak - perhaps try with spiced and less fatty meat (chilli con carne would work). 91-92pts
An absolut perfect showing tonight; rich, dense, sweet, creamy and spicy. Though perfectly mature, there is no signs of fatigue here - and I find no prunes at all. Lovely wine, drinking a point. #Bagnols-en-Forêt

Jan's in town (Kevin and Vicki's house): This wine has not aged well, and I wouldn't expect it to. The wine is dense with tar and blackberry, quite pruny with stewed fruit and little/no acid. This was probably better 5-10 years ago.

Jan's Back in Town (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Medium red color. PNP, followed for an hour. A wicked bottle; over ripe, over done. Strong garrigue and even stronger pepper, pruny faded fruit, not holding up and not really unexpectedly so. Really quite the mess that I don't think anyone wanted to drink. To be fair, it is possible this was heat damaged as we don't know the provenance of the bottle, and I believe it was a bottle acquired through Wine Bid. The CT drinking window of '08 to '17 was probably pretty accurate though. No score.

(Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin) Tight nose with faint plum; tight, light-medium body, with just a bit of tart plum fruit then massive tannins; medium tannic finish

Surprised that I liked it, very rounded, no tupicity, no garrigue, a crowd pleaser
