  • My last two bottles of this wine were pulled for their familiarity, comfort, ability to fit most any occasion and good taste, much like the people with whom they were enjoyed. The color has deepened to a dark cranberry. A cranberry theme seems to continue on both the nose and palate where brisk cranberry strikes the attack flanked by red raspberry, leather, bay leaves and smoke. The firm and now fuller mouthfeel isn’t rich, but it is round with integrated tannins. The acidity and tannins will carry this wine for some time, but I suspect it won’t improve any. Why wait longer. 12% alc. With blue cheeses (Bayley Hazen, Bleu de Basque and Stitchelton), country ham and mustard seed salumi and crusty bread. Recommended.

  • The cranberry coloring of this is captivating with its deep richness and bright burgundy. The nose and palate speak of cranberry, red raspberry, game, leather and smoke. The mouthfeel is a bit lean; maybe somewhat green, but then, it’s a Loire Cab. Franc. This is why we drink them. No need to rush to pull a cork on this. It has years left in front of it. 12% alc. With ham, collards and hopp’n john. Recommended.

  • The color of a deep and rich cranberry juice from rim to core. An abundant nose of rosemary, raspberry, game and tobo rises to meet the face. The profile is exactly parallel to the nose. The mouthfeel is lighter, but that makes it an inviting drink for the beginning of the week. More of these in the cellar but whether to hold or drink is the question. The wine will hold for some time, but why wait? 12% alc. With beef grillard. Recommended.

  • Beautifully positioned in a good spot just now with rich sandalwood notes, raspberry and smoke elements. While the finish is herbal, it is not at all green; more akin to the scent off fingers rubbed with herbs from walking in the kitchen garden. A lighter styled Chinon for “earlier” drinking, this nonetheless delivers abundant pleasure to scent, smell and tactile senses. Some slight sediment at this point. 12% alc. With roasted, skinless chicken breast over mashed potatoes smothered with a mushroom-rosemary sauce. Recommended.
