Dinner with friends (D & Ls): Just a great showing for this wine. Everyone remarked about it and then, the bottle was drained in 15 minutes. Should have brought two. Purple in color, it has lost a bit of the shimmering quality. The nose is gorgeous. Deep, black raspberries, leather, grilled meats, black pepper and decayed meat. On the palate, wonderfully supple texture. Juicy black raspberries. Great balance. Deep. Layers of complexity but fresh and young with no signs of being old or even at peak. Kept getting better in my glass (I only got one glass). Just a great wine.

5 years since I last had this wine, and definitely worth the wait (but don't wait too much longer CT'ers). Extremely dark garnet-purple with great legs/viscosity. Nose of pepper, wet stones, smoky meats, subtle raspberry and bramble. Pepper & mineral still dominate the palate, but there are tons of layers, from black cherry and wild berries, to dusty herbs, dried purple flowers, and touches of oak & cedar. Dense and chewy still after all these years, though not really heavy. Finish is long at a minute plus. Absolutely excellent with Santa Maria style tri tip steak!

My last one. Big without being heavy. Subtle spices that I haven't noticed before. Probably right in the middle of the peak drinking window. Great wine.

Very spicy with big syrah fruit and some raw meat in the background of the nose. Would give a 94 or 95, but there is a little too much heat that I sense. 15.6 alc./vol

I like this style of wine: dark, extracted, earth, tar, raspberry, pepper, chewy and this one was at its peak last night.
