I loved the Verna’s ‘06, ‘07 and ‘08, but when the ‘09 came out I thought it was a step down from those years. It tasted flat for so many years. I finally think they are coming around and hitting the prime drinking window, just as I open my last bottle. Juicy, meaty, bacon, black raspberry, plum, tapenade. Great wine.

Interesting showing. Consumed over 3 nights, and night two was the best. Not that it faded, but it seemed to get sweet and jammy on day 3 (stored on the counter). Purple in color. The nose is very nice with black raspberries, roasted game, slight cedar and black pepper. On the palate, this is juicy with black raspberries and boysenberries. Also some cedar and pepper. Nice velvety texture. Nice finish. Never had a wine get sweeter (and least not a Syrah) on Day 3, so that was interesting. Still, I think there is more development to go at this point.

PnP. Green pepper, olive tapenade, herbs. Nice acidic backbone which mellowed over time. Recommend 1 hour decant.

Not great on night 1 - very tart and lacking in fruit or any sort of complexity. Will wait to see if it improves on night 2.
