Over-delivered on all counts — flavor and aromatics (tar and roses and dark fruit), structure (still some tasty tannins) and life (bright acidity). Opened it with dear neighbors to celebrate 25 years of glorious friendship.

Exceeded expectations. Given the vintage that produced softer, less structured wines, and a winemaking style that I've shifted away from (use of barrique, etc.), I opened this bottle with low expectations. First sip, muddled and oaky. Gave it a very long decant. Went through the mysterious transformation that happens at times with Nebbiolo. Emerged with classic rose and tar, integrated oak, fine tanins, rich fruit, balance, and a nice finish. Pleasant surprise.

Not kept properly for first few years, so when I opened the bottle and tasted green pepper (pyrzenes?) I thought it was defective. However, before pouring it out, I tried again and the off taste vanished. What was left was good--the tannins yielded a nice mouthfeel although I really don't have anything remarkable to say about this wine except that I'm glad it was still good.

Found this bottle in my cellar this week. Medium color. Earthy, vegetative nose with delightful spicy fruit. Not much on attack, but builds to moderate finish. Tannins reduced, but still present.

It was ready to drink and maybe on its downhill side of its life. I found the wine to be very smooth and enjoyable. Very earthy and spicy.
