  • 2005 BODEGAS TORO ALBALA DON PX PEDRO XIMENEZ MONTILLA MORILES- 375 ml; 17% abv; from one of the oldest wine regions in Spain, this dark maple coloured sweetie was thick and sticky; I washed off my hands 3 times while pouring and drinking just a sip, then I had to do a mouthwash to free up my teeth that were stuck together; raisins, almond butter, caramel and butterscotch highlight the taste profile in this syrupy beast which is not a candidate for pancakes, but the next one is. • Nice deep burnt brown colour. The nose shows loads of raisin with toffee in support. The alcohol is a tiny bit out of balance on the nose, through to a mild heat on finish, which may be off-putting for some, but I don't think it overwhelms the experience. This is a bit over the top in its syrupy dense texture, but I find it to be a great nightcap/dessert on its own. Super-sweet, with a palate of nutty raisins, caramel & honey. Bold & rich! This could be tightened up with some more acidity, but I find it heady & full of flavour. I imagine this would be outstanding with a good pecan pie.

  • The color is dark amber/caramel, the consistency is thick.

The nose has raisins, dates, dusty sherry notes and some heat. The palate is rich, the mouthfeel is not unlike maple syrup. There is a great deal of raisins, rich caramel and some alcohol on the back end and into the finish.

This is good but not my style, more an acquired taste.

  • Very sweet. Raisins and honey can be overwhelming.
