  • Perfectly ripe, just at a perfect maturity stage. Still intense, dense, long and rich but no notes of oxidation.

    Lemon peel, butter, great stuff

  • Wow....7+ years have passed since I last drank this. Light straw gold. Super. Sophisticated. Oddly, fried bacon on the nose and then some more familiar lemon. Palate is beautifully rounded pebbles and some honeysuckle and lemon the back end. Heady and reverberant on the finale. Very good indeed and consistent across every vintage. One of my real favourite Napa Chardonnays. No rush to drink this....and I have possibly underscored it.

50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 92/100

  • The wine is popped and chilled before pouring. At 14.9% ABV, the wine pours a light golden hue with very thick legs. Upon pouring, the concentration of the nose is very apparent. The bouquet consists of lemon oil, honeysuckle, apricot cream, vanilla, hazelnut and a touch of mint. The strength of the alcohol flexes itself as soon as it hits the tongue, bringing with it a flash of heat on the palate. This brings about flavors of more vanilla cream, sugarcane water, salted tangerine peel and a hint of a yeasty finish. The wine is starting to show its age too with tertiary notes of beurre noisette and goat cheese. This is an unabashed, full and robust Californian chardonnay with low acidity, but with adequate minerality to maintain the balance and keeps things fresh. Finish is super long, lasting over 45 seconds. Crazy good stuff that can compete with the likes of Peter Michael, Aubert and Marcassin. If only the alcohol was slightly less potent...
