(Cumulus Shiraz Climbing High Elevation Estate) Much is made of elevation with many of these wines, which often list it on the back of the bottle (900 feet above sea level in this case). Unexpectedly dark, dense color, given the cool-climate Syrah notes of smoked game, white pepper, and both red and black fruits. A hearty wine on the palate, with a bit of heat, but still in an Old World style. High in acid and tannins, it may need a year or two (but not more) and hearty dishes. 13.5% alcohol.
