Drank at Club 1243 over 2 hours. Incredible. Dark, intense, youthful...a remarkable display of energy and maturity. This could last for another 20 years. Amazing.

From an era when the legendary wines of Clos des Lambrays were en fuego! The 30s and 40s produced wines with tremendous body, richness and aging potential. The 45 Lambrays is one of those iconic achievements. The color is insanely dark for a 75 year old Pinot. Still full of life with sweet black fruits and cherry jam, roasted meats with coffee dry rub, dark spices and leather. I do not believe the bottle was fake, but this definitely isn’t 100% Pinot. I know back in the day some of these old Burgs were topped off with old vine Syrah and this definitely screams it with the flavor profile. Additionally there were prominent notes of kirsch liqueur. I’ve also read that it wasn’t uncommon for barrels to be capped off with some flavored brandy for preservation.

This wine had a deep red center and tawny rims. The cork was perfect. The high intensity nose blasted roasted meat, cola, roses, black cherries, and tan spices.
In the mouth, this wine had incredible balance with light, rounded tannin, beautifully integrated acidity, and awesome length. While I still say this had some Rhône in it, you could tasted the old vine intensity.
Eureka! Finally a bottle that showed what this wine can be. This particular bottle was so intense, the wine could last another 20 years. Amazing!

Tasted blind, this wine had a very deep red center with tawny rims. The high intensity nose offered up roasted almonds, over-ripe raisins, cherries, malt, plums, and some soil.
In the mouth, this wine was rich with a great texture and light rounded tannin. It had gorgeous mouth-feel with incredible balance. This did not have the over-ripe notes of the nose and also showed some nice milk chocolate notes. It did have very good, but not great, length. My guess is this has a fair amount of Syrah in it.
This is obviously in the zone and will certainly last 10 years or so. This may be the best bottle yet. Impressive!

From a bottle with a 3.5 cm fill, this wine had a deep red/purple center and orange/tan rims. The high intensity nose offered up cola, blackberries, mushrooms, burnt hazelnuts, kirsch, honey, and malt.
In the mouth, this wine was intensely rich with rounded tannin, solid acidity, and great length. It was quite complex and had a great old vine texture in the mouth.
Needless to say given the adjectives above, this was a very unusual wine. It is hard for me to imagine this wine was more than 50% pinot. It seems highly likely that it had some old vine Rhone grapes in it. However, whatever it is made of, it is a very entertaining wine, if somewhat of an oddity.
