Dark, cherry on the nose and some new oak and alcohol. Bracing tannins, earthy and chewy attack -- this La Morra wine reminds me of massive, initially unapproachable but ultimately delicious '01 and 03 Serralunga baroli (Giovanni Rosso comes to mind). The misstep is in the midsection -- not quite intensity, sweetness and menthol highlights renders the palate ultimately a bit hollow. This wine is certainly for laying down, just not sure that with the tannins eventually fading, there would be sufficient sweet fruit in the core to let this wine become a gem it could have been.
