  • I’m a little surprised at how much I like this 19 year old wine. Acidity is bright but buffered by a gorgeous velvety texture. Blueberries, spices, incense, and melted wax on the nose. Powerful on the palate with earthy notes, especially as it breathes. Finish just won’t quit, never-ending. This is hedonistic pleasure.

  • I opened the second bottle with friends on March 8, 2009. It decanted for about three hours and seemed very different from than the first bottle! It had blueberry, vanilla, tobacco and spice on both the nose and palate…No sugarless concord grapes or cocoa powder…This bottle seemed less unique or intriguing. My wife liked it much better this time.

  • I had this with grilled steak on 11/30/08. After decanting for an hour, it had a wonderful bouquet of deep black plum, black currant, cedar and spice aromas. It was very dry and bitter on the palate with flavors of rubber, plum and black currant. I disliked it so much that I opened something else to go with dinner

I came back to it two hours later and while the nose was pretty much the same, the palate had completely changed…It had flavors of plum, black currant, tart cherry, cocoa powder and what I imagine concord grapes would taste like without sugar. It was still very dry, but not nearly as bitter. It was very pleasant, intriguing and quite unique. My score is based completely on what the wine was like after 3 hours in the decanter
