  • As a wine novice, who doesn't drink much Riesling, it was educational to taste the Julius Riesling 2012 and 1998 side by side, guided by the winemaker. This is the best way to get a sense of the effect of ageing on a wine, and I just wish I had more vintages 10 yrs apart, that I could just pop out and drink at home!
The 1998 was amazing - all of the zingy mineral brightness of the '12 had evolved toma floral fruitiness that implied sweetness without actually having any. Some delicious warm notes of tea (someone said crumpets and honey) and a long, dry finish. My studies in Riesling will start with half a case of this!
