  • Did not know what to expect from a 32 year old Calif. late harvest Riesling. But it was a great and fun surprise. Overall, the wine is over the hill -- a bit fading with reduced flavors and acidity. But, this was fun to try. Nose and flavors of apples and honey, slightly fading.

  • Snagged from a dusty corner of my Dad's cellar and brought to stump the crowd this night. Medium golden-brown. Sweet apple cider and sugar, apricots and figs, honey, and baking spices. Soft and plush on the palate, Soft spices, figgy and mature. A little oxidized and over the hill, but hey, it's a Raymond Riesling from 1982! Spices and softness on the finish, a touch short. Overall a nice surprise - it held up quite well and although it was somewhat soft, it had quite a bit of life left in it. Matt, of course, guessed a Chateau St. Jean J. Riesling from the early 80's - damn him! Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 15.5/20.
