I’m a bit torn on what to think of this wine. It is certainly still in full vigour. However, the combination of a hot vintage (almost dried grapes on the vine), drying of grapes until they lose 30-40% of their water content, and then 17 years of age hasn’t exactly made for a fresh drinking experience. Nose of prunes, plums, raisins and just dried and cooked fruits overall. Certainly flowers and dried flower notes; roses and violets. And then something savoury shows up to save the day and provide interest and a sort of liveliness. Palate is full, tannins rather resolved for a Nebbiolo with high tannins, acidity present and overall, the wine is well balanced. Entirely without oxidation so far, yet the dried/stewed/cooked character of the fruit could make it appear so. From reading the older notes, I’d say drink up, but if your preference is towards the fully mature end of the spectrum, I suppose this bottle had at least five more years to go - if not ten

Decanted for 3 hours. Consistent with previous note. It's still very lively with good acidity with nice ripe and sweet aromas. It needs to breath...at least 3 hour decanting.
