Beautiful, archetypal nose of tar, roses, and cherry; On the palate, still plenty of dark, red fruit with streaks of mint and herbs, but its the delicacy on the palate and the silkiness of the finish that elevates this wine. Tannins are mostly resolved with just enough grip to keep the wine interesting. Downright Burgundian, this is absolutely delicious stuff.

Barolo Dinner (Mathilde Bistro - SF): Gorgeous wine drinking at a youthful peak. Beautiful and classic barolo nose, tar, roses, hay and a panoply of other flowers. Palate is effortlessly balanced, medium bodied and lithe, with rich fruit in perfect harmony with the savory secondary notes, nice underlying musculature with a supporting cast of very fine tannins. George calls it slightly modern, but I think of it as just super classy. Consensus WOTN for most.

Barolo Dinner (Mathilde, San Francisco): Intense aromatics, menthol, violets, fantastic complexity; palate is light-medium bodied, floral, red fruited; finish is medium length. Really lovely. 94

Nose: Menthol, iron minerality, boiled strawberries, tar paper, fois gras, some black truffle Palate: Slender but with big complexity. Red berries, mostly boiled strawberries but also some ripe red wineberries, menthol, fois gras, umami, rosehips, some tar. Fine powder tannins and still nice acidity. Really nice to drink now, with or without food.

Menthol, cherry, a little lactic rose. Good balance, still some tannins on this. I adore the subtlety of this wine without any weakness. Gorgeous.
