Opened 5 hours before serving. Both bottles were absolutely fantastic. Perfect balance and definition on the palate. Darker fruits initially which quickly softened on the mid palate and finish to become much more classical chambolle red fruits. The best 95 red burg I've had.

Served blind. I asked the sommelier to open this at lunchtime and leave it with cork out all day. Not sure if he did or not but this was a little friendlier than the bottle last weekend. Still, by no means mature or properly unfolding yet. Leave for another 5 years as there is some promise there.

95 Burgundy (La Trompette, London): Again, a touch of lift here. Deeper colour. Full and quite dense ruby. Good fruit on the mid-palate with a little dryness on the finish. Nose a bit dark and muddy. Sweetens up with air, but still needs time. Could be really quite pretty. **** 92

After some quite hard bottles a few years ago, this showed surprisingly well last year so I decided to try one again before putting this into the blind 95 horizontal at La Trompette later in the week. This was somewhere in between the two earlier showings ie not as hard as 3-4 years ago but not as open as last year's bottle. Precise, red/black fruit but not really a very floral chambolle and still a little truculent.

Riddled with VA. Plenty of dark fruit trying to poke out underneath but impossible to assess on this showing.
