Still quite good, tho definitely towards the end of its life. Quite restrained compared to the Caymus Cabs of today. A very nice representation of mid-Napa Valley and Rutherford Cabernet. Tasted twice. Drink NOW.

Had this next to a '78 and a 2000 and it was the weakest of the three. Decent character and fruit on the nose, but lacked the bold finish or complexity of the other two.

Cork in terrific shape and fill above the neckline. Ruby red in appearance, first impression was an old Bordeaux with ripe funk and eArth on the nose but tasted still very fresh. Splash decanting the wine revealed good fruit and tannins still prominent but mostly resolved and showing a 5-10 second pleasant but not tingly finish. After one hour the wine continued to evolve and the subtle finish extended to a full 30 seconds and made me want to have another taste. Beautiful long legs form on the glass after swirling. I may have to upgrade my score another point or two. This is my last bottle and while it is not the big fruit bomb it was in youth it has matured beautifully and wish I had a couple more, thanks Caymus!!

5 Cabernet Sauvignons tasted from the 1980s. Nose of wood, earth, graphite, cassis, blackberry, and a touch of bell pepper, same on the palate, improved throughout the evening, big body, delicious, medium/long finish. My #4 of 5 tonight. 1984 Caymus Estate 1985 Spottswoode 1987 Beringer Private Reserve 1987 Silver Oak Alexander Valley 1987 Chateau Montelena
