Jim's Retirement Party (Libertyville, IL): From magnum, opened and double decanted several hours earlier. Ripe and fleshy cherry, slightly more black than red, with lots of spice but also still showing a bit too much new oak. Very good density, this clearly showed its Grand Cru pedigree, but in their first vintage, d'Eugenie was less successful showcasing the wine's Vosne terroir.

Jim's Retirement Party (Libertyville, IL): From magnum. Doesn't show the off notes of 2006, but the glossy oak is a little too prominent here. Large-scaled with more black fruit than red, this is generously proportioned and with enough of a tannic backbone that further aging will be quite profitable.

VOSNE-ROMANEE (AIS TORINO): 70% legno nuovo - 100% diraspato. Bellissimo granato scarico, quasi luccicante.
